Meaning and Purpose - The Stories of our Lives

Thursday 28th September - 6.00pm - 7.15pm

The need for meaning fuels the quest for learning and truth in science and in the world’s philosophical, religious and spiritual traditions. At the same time, in a secular age, a lack of meaning and purpose can leave us vulnerable to mental ill health. In this evening talk we will explore:

Why we are wired to seek meaning and purpose through the power of    metaphor

  • How finding meaning has helped people survive extreme situations
  • How stories from traditional psychology and spiritual traditions can help us to make sense of suffering and find meaning in the face of hardship

“You only truly possess that which you cannot lose in a shipwreck.”Al-Ghazzali
