April - Food and Drink

Each month at Quay Place we have a different theme which relates to an emotional need.  Just as we have physical needs for food, drink, sleep and movement, we have emotional needs too which need to be met for us to stay well.
What we eat and drink can significantly affect our emotional wellbeing. Eating the right foods with the right nutrition is good for both our physical and emotional health, but of course many of us resort to fats and sugars to lift our mood when we feel lonely, stressed, bored or anxious. Likewise, what we drink and how much we drink is important too; caffeine can give us a lift in the morning, but too much can negatively affect sleep and trigger anxiety; alcohol can be pleasant in small amounts, but depending on it to handle difficult feelings can lead to addiction.
This April we will be exploring the relationship between food, drink and emotional wellbeing.

Colouring Group

Colouring group - Mondays between 2.00pm - 4.00pm 

Our adult colouring group is the ideal place to indulge your creative side.   Learn about the heritage of the building too by colouring in images all linked to Quay Place.  One of our volunteers Judy will be part of the group too so can help advise and encourage if you are new to colouring.    A great opportunity to meet new people and chat while colouring!   All pencils and templates provided.   

The group is free to join and will meet between 2.00-4.00pm on Monday afternoons.   Pre-booking not required just come along if and when you can.

 

Pilates at lunchtime

Wednesdays  - 12.30pm - 1.30pm (from 29th March)

Beginner 5 week mat course with Michaela Windsor a STOTT Pilates trained instructor!

Bring your own mat and give it a try.

Drawing Project

Drawing Project

Come and draw at Quay Place - Friday mornings 10.30am - 1.00pm  

Do you enjoy drawing? It is fun, relaxing, and helps in developing a feeling of wellness. Colours and shapes are well known to promote emotion in both artists and viewers.

Paper, feltpens and pencils are available at the Church and you can drop by and use them when you like. You can draw the building, people around you, or anything else that you want. There are mirrors you can look in if you want to draw yourself, or get a new view of the building.

Mindfulness Training Course

An 8 week course with day retreat option.
The course starts April 3rd 2017 - 6pm to 8pm and is held weekly . April 17th and May 29th Bank holidays as gaps - last session on May 6th

Early bird price, £230, until 3 weeks before, thereafter, £260

Offered by experienced teacher and chartered psychologist Martin Wilks who has been teaching secular mindfulness since late 80's.

Peer Support Network - Free Taster

Monday 24th April- 10.00am to 12.00noon

Gain some new skills that can help you to lead a happier and more balanced life.

The taster is a good opportunity to find out more, try some of the techniques and to meet the Trainers. After the taster you will be offered the opportunity to go on to complete the course and learn more of the skills that can be used both at home and at work.There is no charge for the taster or the course, the only investment is with your time.

Hatha / Flow Yoga Class

Monday 24th April - Beginner level class 6.15pm - FREE Trial class offer for new joiners

The Monday class will be a mix of flowing sequences to warm the body and awareness of breath, to hold poses/stretches which will encourage flexibility and balance and tone the body. Laughter is encouraged and don’t worry there will be no chanting or headstands. We will close on a guided relaxation to quiet the mind and release stress.

What the Tudors Ate

Tuesday 25th April -2.00pm-3.00pm

A fascinating free to attend talk on 'What the Tudors ate' by John Biglin, Heritage and Community coordinator at Quay Place.

Come and learn about the types of food and how the Tudors ate their way through some well known and lesser well known foods. We will be looking, not just at what the wealthy people ate, but also what sustained everyday folk. There is no charge for the talk although donations are always welcome. Hatha /Introductory Yoga Class

Wednesday 26th April - 6.15pm - 7.15pm -

The Wednesay classes are suitable for beginners and those who want to get back into some form of exercise again. To include awareness of breath, held poses and stretches to encourage flexibility, balance, and tone up those core muscles!

We close on a guided relaxation to quiet the mind and release stress.

Sanctuary Singing

Come and join one of our friendly singing sessions, all welcome.

Come along to find out, ‘What need are we feeding?’ to get a better understanding of what needs are unmet in your life, how you can make better choices around food and drink, and get a life which better supports your physical and emotional health.

Zhineng Qigong Practice Sessions

Saturday 6th & 20th May
10.00am to 11.00am
This will be taking place at Quay Place, Key Street. Ipswich, IP4 1BZ

Zhineng Qigong is a Chinese form of moving meditation that relaxes the body and frees the mind. Based on the principle that our mind controls our energy, known as Yi Dao Qi Dao, the morning practice sessions will guide you through a sequence of movements that promotes healing, improve circulation and quieten the mental busyness.
No previous experience is required, only a willingness to enjoy and explore this powerful, transformative practice with friends old and new.

No pre booking – just turn up.

Wear comfortable clothing that doesn’t restrict movement.
