Institute presented by Gecko
Special screening of Institute on World Mental Health Day
Institute is an interesting and emotive performance by the Gecko Theatre Company. We follow the story of two men working in an office as each of them deals with the challenges of life – some professional, some personal. We watch them both deal with these challenges and witness how their emotional wellbeing is affected.
The story is brought to life through the physical performance, which goes beyond simple storytelling. The two main characters represent some of their inner turmoil through dance-like movements which the audience is invited to interpret. There are no right or wrong interpretations, but Gecko has found that the performance evokes an emotional response from many audience members that they would like to discuss after the show.
To that end, Gecko approached Suffolk Mind about an idea to create something extra to run alongside the next run of the show this autumn.
We are piloting this project with a screening of Institute at Quay Place on Monday 10 October, 2pm, followed by a panel discussion on the themes the performance raises. The panel will feature Ezra Hewing from Suffolk Mind, and Amit Lahav from Gecko.
Later in the week we will host a physical movement workshop to further explore the themes from the show and look at the link between movement and mental wellbeing.
I do hope you can help us to make this project a success and spend an incredibly interesting afternoon exploring the link between movement and mental health.
